Microsoft Flight

Flight News Updates We hope you enjoy Microsoft Flight!

We’re proud to open the hangar doors and present the future of flying on your PC. Whether you’re a complete newcomer to aviation or an experienced PC pilot, we believe you’ll enjoy flying with us.

The release of Flight represents the culmination of three years of hard work and experimentation as we worked to reimagine the 30-year-old Flight Simulator franchise, push forward the evolution of the PC flying experience, and bring the thrill and wonder of flight to whole new audiences.

There’s a lot to do in Flight’s version of Hawaii, from basic flight instruction to hunts for hidden Aerocaches, from experimenting with different aircraft to showing off your skills in aerobatics challenges, from ferrying passengers and cargo around the islands to advancing your career as a pilot. We hope you’ll have fun exploring the environment we’ve built.

We’ve only scratched the surface of how we can deliver on our vision. There are a lot of opportunities on the horizon to continue to evolve the experience, and the team is already hard at work designing ways to fulfill the promise those opportunities represent. We’re excited about continuing to provide new and interesting ways to fly.

The future is bright. We hope you’ll enjoy what we’ve made so far and can’t wait to show you what we’re working on next.

See you in the sky!

Already Enjoying :)

Microsoft Flight rocks once it gets going

February 28, 2012 11:12 PM

Just downloaded and installed Microsoft Flight! Now enjoying :-)

February 28, 2012 11:28 PM

Well, I like the *vision* of MS Flight .. but it's got a long way to go to hold a candle to FSX.  I'll donate (purchase) to show my support but will mostly play FSX till this game evolves.

February 29, 2012 12:51 AM

While I was a bit shocked at the size of the download (i.e. I was thinking somewhere in the 6-10GB range), I hope the Game team there plans on expanding and adding on to this so there is a greater emphases on realism (e.g. ATC, etc).

I was also told that with the small download, only the Hawaiian Islands are available in game at this time. My download is not finished yet, however, perhaps someone can post and comment on the scenery area(s) that are included in the initial download are as well as if there are any plans to expand the 'flight world' (besides the Island Adventure Pack for sale)

February 29, 2012 1:25 AM

Great job, MS! I've played just 15 mins so far, and really enjoyed the way Flight feels. The new graphics engine is superb - silky smooth! I can't wait to get home and try it on my home rig.

Please ignore the 'over-entitled haters'; there seem to be a few people these days that simply cannot ever be happy with change.

Flight looks to be a great new direction for Flight Simming, I'm looking forward to further expansions.

On that note, I saw a suggestion on the Avsim forum - SAILBOATS! They would be a fun addition in Hawaii, especially if you could race multiplayer.

I would love to see helicopters make an appearance too, but for now the new stable of light GA aircraft will do me fine.

thanks again MS for keeping our hobby alive!

February 29, 2012 1:52 AM

Well, good thing it's free, my GPU has shader 2.0, not 3.0. Guess I'll stick with FSX until I get a new GPU.

February 29, 2012 1:57 AM

I noticed that the A5 doesn't have flaps but it does in real life.  Kind of disappointing and if I'm gonna be spending 7 or 10 bucks on a plane I would hope all the real stuff is there.  I understand that the vision flight is going for that is make it easy for everyone to fly, but flaps are real easy and its also fun to come in to fast and judge your landing and put flaps in when necessary.  Also stalls are a bit weak, It would be fun if stalls were more realistic that is one wing would stall first and you tend to go into a spin.  I do like the graphics though but I don't like how slow you seem to fly even at 140 knots.

February 29, 2012 2:19 AM

Is air traffic control in Microsoft Flight?

February 29, 2012 2:35 AM

When I try to sign into Windows Live it asks me for my product key, where do I get it?

February 29, 2012 2:56 AM

Well, we know from the beginning and the comments from FSX add-ons company that Flight wouldn't be the successor of Flight Simulator X.

However, what I fell is the most annoying is the lack of communication from the MS Studios team on future plans....  are there going to be ATC ? Are there going to be other territories in the US, Europe, Asia ?  Are there going to be jetliners (Airbus, Boeing).....

What we need is just a Yes, No or we don't knoz yet.

Thank you

February 29, 2012 4:11 AM

Fantastic game, really enjoying it. Can't wait to see what else is in store for this series. It is the perfect blend of having enough fidelity to be challenging while still being fun and entertaining. So many sims lose sight of the fun factor, but Flight nails it.

It is really disappointing to see "hardcore" flight simmers carry on like children. Their attitudes have driven me away from the genre and their communities, so I for one am glad for Flight's inclusiveness.

February 29, 2012 4:17 AM

well where do i start not really impressed with this like the missions but it is clear its nothing like fsx!!! but graphics controls you guys did a great job making it just had a question when will you guys make more continents availble?

February 29, 2012 4:26 AM

To date the BEST flight dynamics of any flight game/simulator on the market. The graphics with everything maxed out are smooth which add to the immersion of flying. Compared to other flight software ive used, it runs at 3 times the frame rate. I’ve done some exploring, and have had some real WOW moments. Well done MS. I know that Flight is a still a baby and what’s cool is, it’s going to grow up! :)

February 29, 2012 4:27 AM

Don't blame, guys. I belive that the future work could include some complexities. Does anyone notice the instruments inside the cockpit, e.g., simple nav radio, the triming and altimeter adjustment? And also, there are some legends abount the VOR, ILS and others. So I belive that the interface or instrment function have been available inside the framework. Once the SDK would be published by studio, some good add-ons might appear. Anyway, well done, studio, could you give us more details for future feature or info?

February 29, 2012 4:56 AM

I have grown up playing sims and even got my pilots license and although they have done wonders for the graphics, fps, and the trim of the aircraft, there is still much to be desired.

-Aircraft selection is simply pathetic!

-The option of realism doesn't exist (I managed to tack off in a 29 kts cross wind in the ICON... should have been a ground loop instantly).

-Only giving us 1 island in Hawaii makes me feel as though I am playing a demo. It does look great though.

-8 bucks for a play add on is kinda steep

The over all feeling I am left with is this, if you advertise a game as free then make it so. Premium content is one thing (Mustang I would consider premium, not the Maule) but what you have given us is a demo where we can't even get a feel for all aspects of the game.

I know corporations are only interested in my money but at least make me feel like its a bonus to get some add on's instead of making me feel like you're reaching into my pocket!

February 29, 2012 5:11 AM

I'm loving Flight on so many levels: the flight modelling feels much better than the default aircraft in FSX and this sentiment also applies to the quality of the aircraft and scenery which again is higher. I also like the fact that they have included working navigations aids such as VORs, NDBs, GPS and ILS. Sure, there are things I wish had been included, such as ATC and AI, but I'm sure these things will come in time. When you think how much, on average, an individual add-on aircraft or scenery costs and we're getting this for free... I hope it does well!

February 29, 2012 5:15 AM

Is this what MS had us waiting so long for? Where are the airplane selections like FSX and the many airport selections across the universe. One thing I really like thou, and that's the graphics.

February 29, 2012 5:16 AM

How do I purchase the add-ons if my XBox Live ID Country/Region was (somehow) set to United States but I'm from a place which XBox Live ID do not list/support? No support for PayPal either..

February 29, 2012 5:37 AM

Lost me too... :(

February 29, 2012 5:52 AM

Achei decepcionante.

February 29, 2012 5:56 AM

I love the game and how you get XP. Im not a hardcore flight simulator so nice to play something in the middle. There is some problems right now. First I have to agree with some other people that it does feel more like a demo. I understand you need to make money and that is cool but if this so called free game only lets you play this one island for free then this shouldnt be called a free game. I hope there will be more free locations for the poor people out there. Losing out on costumers if we only get one free island imo. More locations that are free the more people will want to buy aircrafts to fly around with at them.

Hope to see more of a use for multiplayer also.

A forum here for this game would also be nice.

Other than all that its going good. Keep up the hard work.

February 29, 2012 6:13 AM

Absolutely LOVE flight, well done. Keep the new content coming as quickly as possible.

February 29, 2012 6:41 AM

That confused me to but I figured it out. You have to sign in a Xbox Live account. Then it will work. Kinda confusing but makes sense now.

February 29, 2012 6:45 AM

It is clearly an arcade game  designed to appeal to Dudes & Bros with awesome, cool and way cool features. But rather than being a cool Dude it leaves me very cold. So long as Microsoft offers this program as a typical dumb'd down "simulator" I see no rational reason to use it. I have already begun to purchase addons for FSX that I had held off on while awaiting the release of Flight.

Until serious funding is allotted to bring this up to the feature/function rich level of FSX very few FSX user will contribute to the Microsoft revenue stream. The next thing we will get here are weapons systems so Top Gun aspirants get to see dismembered enemies thrown from their cockpits as the gamer once again saves the world.

February 29, 2012 7:28 AM

Not bad. Flight is good fun and flies nicely and smoothly but won't replace FSX (or even X-Plane 10) as it just isn't a true flight simulator.

Thanks for making it free BUT I have serious reservations about the pricing for the add-ons. I was expecting a nominal cost per download but the pricing at the moment is just ridiculous. £14.99 for the rest of Hawaii! I want to fly anywhere in the world - how much will that eventually cost me?!!

I think as things stand I have doubts about just who is going to want to invest their money in Flight when there are simply better and 'cheaper' real flight simulators out there. I could be wrong of course.

February 29, 2012 7:35 AM

Yea its just your average game for 10 to 12 year olds with their game pads, Not your Flight simulator of the past. Flight Simmers dont get to happy about the P-51 either its external view Only flight!!!!! Goodluck everyone hope you Engoy it

February 29, 2012 7:44 AM

I gave it another try, wanted to just do free flight, nope I must finish the tutorials first? The tables have turned, i can't control the controls me!  NOT!

February 29, 2012 7:58 AM

So I waited and waited and downloaded and it stopped right in the middle of the download and will not restart. Keep getting some strange message and told to contact support which is no help at all.

Glad I didn't have to pay anything for this!

February 29, 2012 8:17 AM

Ok, I already read through all comments here and didn't expect the even the installation did not work because the installer checked my available disk space after !!!! completing the download and canceled the setup. Now I have to download the whole 1,4 GB again...such a painful bug that would be so easy to resolve!

February 29, 2012 8:41 AM

You can forget about playing this on different computers. I installed on my win7 machine and all is good. Then I installed on my winXP machine and signed in. It is signed in and starts from tutorial level. I did that and all my xp is still there and all but my missions I have completed I have to redo on my other machine. Not doing that so hopefully this will be fixed with a patch sometime soon.

February 29, 2012 8:49 AM

Hard core simmers need to relax.   The graphics and the smooth flying feel are far beyond anything else that is out there.   These guys have moved the Flight Sim genre many steps ahead and that needs to be applauded.    Am sure the product will evolve into something with greater complexity (and yet simple to operate) -- but just enjoy the fact that you do not have to read 400 pages of manuals just to get the prop moving.  Not everyone has the time to spent 10 hours a day plumbing the depths of hard core sims and programming controllers.

For those with download problems, I had those too.  Took a while to figure out, but I downloaded a Games for Windows update and that fixed it.   Also, the FAQs address some of the download issues.

Great work MS!!

February 29, 2012 8:51 AM

I love the graphics, and how good it runs on my PC, compared to FSX and X-plane 10.  but, it really is just a game.  Don't like that I can't really customize my controls much.  Hopefully we will get some Saitek panel support.  I love the A5, beautiful plane, but where is the Cessna 172?  whats a flight sim without a cessna 172?  Best free game I have ever downloaded though. but I think I'll stick to x-plane 9 for now.

February 29, 2012 8:59 AM

I myself was real world private pilot and nothing compares to flying a Level-D 767 with a programmed FMC to final approach fixes in FSX especially with add-ons and tweaks to make it incredibly realistic but Flight has offered something unique and that is the ability

to just enjoy a sim. My fiance is going to try this game and hopefully she will get into aviation because she couldn't even think about all the procedures, checklists and what looks to her random flipping of switches and dials in my 767 or ifly 737NG cockpit while I'm flying a route but flight will allow her to pick up an Xbox controller and just fly! I love it!! This takes the complicated thrustmaster cougar flight system and my cirrus rudder pedals out of the mix for her to learn how to fly easily and hopefully progress to FSX.

Just enjoy it if you want to clear your head and go back to basics!

The sim glitches or stutters momentarily at times and trust me I have no bottlenecks! Here are my specs:

Coolmaster HAF 932 Case

Intel i7 2600K Overclocked to 4.6GHZ Stable

Radeon 7970 (Could be drivers causing the issue)

16GB Ram

I run FSX maxed with ORBX FTX scenery and I still get a smooth 45FPS

February 29, 2012 9:06 AM

Anyone complaining about it not being like the other MS Sim games maybe didnt watch trailer, other vids or read about this.

The Icon was chosen to be the first aircraft for a reason I would think. Its because is easy to learn how to use compared to a airliner and fun. Gets new people into the game. Im sure the more you play and more planes you get the harder it gets like most game people are used to now days. its called Microsoft Flight not Microsoft Flight Sim. I still think it is somewhat a sim but that is my opinion. Im not no expert or huge die hard flight sim person so maybe thats why I view this different than others.

Need to get home and play on my 50inch tele at home now!!!!!

February 29, 2012 9:27 AM

Good mix of Flight sim/ pilot wings. Impressed so far!

February 29, 2012 9:48 AM

I like the smoothness of the graphics, it runs a lot beter than fsx, and still looks ok (not great though). However, this was fun for 20 minutes... It's a flying game, not a simulator. No traffic, no atc, no procedures. It's an arcade! Microsoft has turned their back on the flight sim enthusiast community, and that's a shame. I see this as a quick demo, and sincerely hope they get this graphics engine running on an extended product that actually is a FLIGHT SIMULATOR. This is not. If this is what MS has in mind for the future of flight sims they lost a customer. I waited for this for a long time, and I'm disappointed.

February 29, 2012 9:52 AM

Love it!  Everything about it nice, looking forward to the rest of the world over time! FS9 veteran for many years!

February 29, 2012 10:02 AM

Sweet, already out.

But still i didn't heard any news on gaming sites abut this.

February 29, 2012 10:06 AM

You need to create a xbox live account first.Make sure your signed in with it before trying.

They need to fix that so people know.I hope to see many patches.

February 29, 2012 10:07 AM

I've been an avid flight simmer for several years mostly on FSX and while the game does have an "arcadey" feel at the moment, I am hopeful that this is just the beginning and that additional content will ultimately be rolled out to appease the flight simmer community - most of which at least from these comments appear to be dissapointed.

That being said, I am impressed with the improvement of the graphics and overall smoothness of the game.  My rig could never run FSX the way I wanted it to and I spent a lot of time and effort to try and get it how I wanted.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first couple hours of flying time.  Looking forward to getting into it more.  Thanks MS.

February 29, 2012 10:58 AM

It's asking me for a product key. Where do I get one?

February 29, 2012 11:12 AM

some 1 can tell my how work cockpit view from purchased aircraft p-51d mustang?when i use cockpit view i see from prop and no from cockpit..

February 29, 2012 11:22 AM

I'm fairly happy with this, but i can see where the more hardened sim players would beunhappy. As a gamer its good fun although a little more initial content and better DLC prices wouldn't go amiss. From the sim side of things there is a lot missing which hopefully will be added sometime soon. 1600 points for DLC is a lot of money even for someone used to XBOX DLC, so thats disappointing. Overall though not a bad start.

February 29, 2012 11:32 AM

People, what did you expect from a program with a FREE-to-play core? You knew before that it was just Hawaii for the beginning and you don't have to buy the additional content. You can increase the realism in the option menus as well and most of the instruments are working as they should. Now MS has the program-core and the tools to create new planes and scenery to make everyone happy.

To the ones saying this is a child's arcade game, have you tried some of the landing challanges without HUD and realistic settings? Or are you just scared by the new design with XP, Awards and stuff, which has nothing to do with the flightdynamics themselves?

Of course Jets and long IFR flights aren't possible at the moment, since the content isn't available yet. But be patient and give it time, as others are saying.

February 29, 2012 11:37 AM

Meanwhile I have overcome the installation problems (with a new xbox-live-account it doesn't ask you for the cd-key). And after the first hour, I must say the gfx engine improved a lot, on my machine it runs smoothly with a few stutters on max details, while in FSX i barely got 15 FPS. Also the aero-caching seems like a nice idea to explore the new world. But many many things are missing: no flight planning, ATC, AI traffic (land/sea/air), no wheather editor, and what happened to force feedback? And on my first aerocache I had to fly below a whole forest floating in the air...didn't anyone test this?

February 29, 2012 11:40 AM

I have been a "hard core" flight simmer since version 1.0.  I'm also a real world pilot and I must say after a few hours of cruising around in Flight that it is the BEST upgrade to the series I have ever seen.  I love the new layout and the connection with Live for stats, etc.  I had no problems downloading the game or the additional content which I purchased right away.  Content is very reasonable priced.  I have spend $$$$ on FSX upgrades and hours and hours tweaking the sim and still have problems with it. My Saitek flight controls connected without any issues.  Setup was a breeze compared to FSX.  I remember when FSX came out and the "hardcore" FS9 community went nuts.  I have lost a hugh amount of respect for the flight sim community in regards to comments I have read here and other places.  I have over 250 hours in the PMDG 73 series and love it but just like in real life it starts to get old.  I know real world commercial pilots that pine to get back to the basics of flying.  Flight delivers this and then some.  I just finished the mission to find the missing kayaker in the Napali Coast of Kauai. What a blast.  Awesome graphics.  The Icon 5 flight physics are excellent.  This puts the fun back into desktop flight simming and is going to attract many, many more people into the hobby and maybe even get them into real world training! Great Job to all that work on this project.  I truly appreciate MS staying in the flight sim arena and contrats to all involved in bringing this to my pc!  IMHO this is absolutely the future of desktop simming and I'm in for the long haul.  Can't wait to see what you guys come up with next.  Awesome!!

February 29, 2012 11:46 AM

Touche Flyboy!

February 29, 2012 12:06 PM

well ive been playing flight sims for a long time now and always wanted something like this.

i think they have nailed it. the graphics are really good . the flight control is on the money . people need to remember that this is early days and there is room for adding what every one wants into the game .

hard core flight simmers need to get there heads out of there ass and open there eyes i mean they even thought of the planes fuel system as the bye plane is a gravity fed system so when inverted the plane coughs and splatters like i real gravity fed system would and even stalls if flown inverted for to long .

multiplayer games are as easy as 1,2,3 and you have people flying with you the chat and mic system is as easy as that as well .

A really good flight sim for all levels id say and im looking forward to the rest of this game and the final product .

( yes there are a couple of things like atc and push back that needs to be put in and now to think of it A.I planes but its early days people )  ... top job microsoft keep the good work up

M$ Flight is fair, yes it is free but sad only ONE Hawaii Island allow you fly around it.

And I can waiting for new next M$ Flight Simulator 11.

We hope you are working on M$ Flight Simulator 11?

February 29, 2012 1:19 PM

I would like to say i'm enjoying the game however i've installed the game twise now and each time i try to play the game i get Debug error! in C++ language library Damage: after Normal Block (#139) at 0x1FB33D70.  or something similar.

February 29, 2012 1:45 PM

Love it! Great game everyone can master. It´s nothing for sim enthusiasts but give it a try!

February 29, 2012 1:52 PM

For those getting asked for a product key, here's a workaround:

Because Microsoft Flight is Free-to-Play when you sign-into LIVE for the first time through Flight a product key should be auto assigned to you.   However we have noticed that some users are not getting their key auto assigned and are seeing a message asking them to enter a valid product key for the game.  Here are some steps to take if you run into this issue:

1. Close down Flight

2. Re-launch the game

3. Attempt to sign-in again

If there is a 5x5 key already entered into the product key window just click ‘I accept’ and then the ‘Submit’ button.  This should log you in.  If that still does not give you a valid product key do the following to manually retrieve a key:

1. Go to

2. Click the ‘Buy Game FREE’ button

3. Select ‘Confirm Purchase’ (this is a free transaction and won’t cost anything)

4. Open up the Games for Windows Marketplace Client on your PC (found under Start->All programs->Games for Windows Marketplace)

5. Sign into the Marketplace Client with your GFWL / Xbox LIVE account

6. Click the ‘Downloads’ tab

7. Click ‘Microsoft Flight’ from the list

8. Click ‘View Game Keys’

9. Copy the ‘LIVE Access Code’

10. Open Flight

11. Sign-in again

12. If still asked for a Product Code, enter the LIVE Access Code you copied in step 9

13. Click ‘I accept’ and ‘Submit’

The P51 model available at this point does not have a full cockpit version yet, it is designed to be flown from the spot plane or external view mode for now.

Hopfully you guys add a forum soon.

February 29, 2012 2:34 PM

Hey guys. I need to know if there is a way to change airports. I am a FSX user and have been for 3+ years. I'm a little bit disappointed with Microsoft. I think that it's more of a "game" than a simulator. Either way, I really know.

February 29, 2012 2:49 PM

TO ALL THE MEMBERS ON THE MS FLIGHT SIM TEAM: Although we, the flight sim community, have shared some disappointmen with MSF, we thank you for your hard work.  This program runs great on modern computers.  We have been SPOILED with FSX, Acceleration and 3rd party add ons. With your past history of making FS better and better, I believe our disappontment is this appears to be a game.  I hope this demo was to open a dialogue with your faithful FSX users who still refuse to go to X-Plane. As far as prices, please remember we are not X-Box users who only upgrade with a wireless remote.  We have hundreds if not thousands of dollars in flight sim paraphernalia.  WE WILL PAY A FAIR PRICE in the front end to get the entire game.  I have no problem with a basic and deluxe.  PLEASE listen to our plea, we need the great product the MSF members can produce. We need realism.  FSX was "As Real as it Gets!" please make MSF the Ultimate Flight Sim immersion.  THANKS for your history of great flight sim products.

February 29, 2012 2:59 PM

I am truly dissappointed and now i will wait for another flight game that deserves my time.

February 29, 2012 3:15 PM

OK so I've done some flying & testing & just don't feel it's up to par for a true flight simulator. I'd put it in the category of a game with flying involved. The pro's & con's

1. Good graphics & frame rates (maxed out but then again I on a i7 uP with 12G mem & a Nivida 460 card, so it should be smooth & it is.

2. Good for playing with a game pad.

3. That's about it for PRO's

1. Setting up my Saitek Flight Yoke was a pain, can only move between menu's with the mouse & you spend a lot of time trying to find where the pointer is, ITS NOT VISIBLE?

2. Flying with the default aircraft just isn't realistic.

3. No other choice of aircraft.

4. HUD isn't real, more of a help me type of flying for someone not familuar with what their doing with instruments.

6. Seems geared to the market for "buy some stuff"

If your downloading thinking your getting into a great MS Simulator experience I suspect you will be disappointed, especially if you have any flying, either real or simulator. It's not that. Just disappointed that Microsoft couldn't come up with a better plan for re-entry into the sim market? Gates had to know what the marketing scheme was? If they think kids with game pads will dump money into this I think their wrong. The serious fltsims will but this just doesn't measure up. I'd pay lots for Lockheed Martin Prepar3D with true flight simulator capabilities. Sorry Microsoft but you missed on this one BIG TIME.

February 29, 2012 3:25 PM

Even though it's geared towards new users of Flight Sim who aren't so interested in the procedures of flying, I don't think it will appeal too much to them let alone the existing FS fans.

Squawk 1337
February 29, 2012 4:09 PM

You guys made a flight sim that caters to the lowest common denominator - ok fine.

But then you made the install process require an advanced degree!! LoL.. Come on.

It wont run if installed to anything other than the default directory without manipulating hidden variables. The people who need someone to hold their hand through a heading change aren't going to get that either - and since it is a free product they will just walk away.

I really do understand the idea of getting casual enthusiasts in to the game, but flying airplanes inherently requires people who can LEARN things. The game runs well, the two default airplanes fly just fine.

The noobs who can get the game to work will probably play it for a day or two and leave once they realize the complexity of understanding individual airplanes (beyond the icon). The enthusiasts who have always been the mainstay of the flighsim series are going to be sorely dissapointed by being imprissoned on props within the hawaiin islands, and without some serious content add-ons soon you are going to lose both audiences - the noob and the enthusiast.

February 29, 2012 4:17 PM

I'm downloading it at the moment (3rd time lucky), but I have a slight feeling its going to be a waste of 1.5GB of broadband.....

Carribean Blue
February 29, 2012 4:20 PM

Well, the free version is quite devoid of much to do, dynamic scenery ect.  The two included aircraft are not shabby at all, I quite enjoy them.   I'm hoping to see additions to the sim to include dynamic scenery, real world weather, and all the other things that made previous flight sims great.

Yes, this is geared more towards a mass market, but there isn't any reason we can't have the realism of FSX added to this via in game options.

Here is hoping it gets there!  I'll give it time and see where it goes... I'm currently downloading the full Hawaii pack to see if that helps with some of my qualms... 20 bucks isn't so bad.. :)

February 29, 2012 4:34 PM

Funny game. Seems like TDU2 but than in the sky. Nothing compared to FS2004 or FSX. The big mistake we all make is comparing this game with Fs2004 or FSX with all lovely add ons. Flgith is not a simulation but a true game to play.

By the way, im dutch and i dont use my credit card online. But...there arent other ways to eventually buy other crafts. Are there a kind of Gift cards?

February 29, 2012 4:50 PM

Can you bring back the music from the beta or put a option to play a music?

February 29, 2012 4:51 PM doesn't redirect to the new homepage.

February 29, 2012 5:30 PM

Insane how you can go from Aces Studios to this. Completely different ideas of Flight. Even the casual gamer can use FSX , so I don't see the need to cater to noobs.

February 29, 2012 7:05 PM

Well done. Great game. Good for plenty of fun time.

And to all who don't like it. Don't buy it. Stop nagging. Stick to FSX.

February 29, 2012 7:12 PM

I purchased the Maule looking for a plane that has more features than the default ones, and the autopilot does not work, it's pure cosmetic. And 15 euros for a Maule? 20 euros for the small islands of Hawaii? 35 euros for a small scenery and a small plane with no autopilot? MS are you kidding us?

February 29, 2012 7:13 PM

I'm a big fan of FSX and previous Flight Simulator games. However I also really like Flight a lot! It has enough to keep you occupied and it is a fun game to play. I admit it isn't a true simulator like FSX but it is still fun nonetheless.

With more and more downloadable content being made available, I can see Flight maturing nicely!

February 29, 2012 7:13 PM

I like the model of the free game with the DLC. If you like it, keep it. If you don't, it didn't cost a dime. I enjoyed it enough to buy the Hawaiian Adventure Pack and the customer support at Windows Live when I had an install problem was fantastic. Microsoft produced a nice product and I look forward to picking and choosing what comes down the DLC pipeline.

And....for what it's worth, I also have FSX on the same machine so I can continue with that when I want the hardcore simulation experience. I like that I have 2 choices to fly depending on my mood. Great job Microsoft !!!!!!

February 29, 2012 7:22 PM

The game is a beautiful game, but people will get bored of just flying around.  The true Simmers that appreciate the Flight Sim genre are the ones that keep flight sims alive.  so you gotta understand true simmer will make or break this game, and if microsoft doesn't realize that, they will loose their fan base to X-plane, which is a true flight sim.  You have to really understand the devoted simmers, to understand their disappointment.  I said it before it is the best game I have ever gotten for free,  but If I want to actually Flight sim, I will be using x-plane.  But I'm not giving up hope,  I know the possibilities can be pretty endless with this game, but microsoft really needs to consider who they want to cater to, the ones that are going to keep this game live until the next installment, or the ones that are going to keep it alive, until the next Modern Warfare comes out.

February 29, 2012 8:42 PM

The game looks great but what about support for the TrackIR 5?

February 29, 2012 8:52 PM

I am enjoying this game.

But, When I press startmission button in job board mission, nothing happpens but disappearing airplane. Any ideas?

I Hope official forum could be available soon.

February 29, 2012 9:28 PM

I`m sure that MS will make more improvements on days come. Right now, Looking good, but not that good yet.

But Thanks MS.

February 29, 2012 9:58 PM

Congratulations Flight Team. Looking forward to future enhancements.

February 29, 2012 10:50 PM

Wow. I posted a nice long comment and it was deleted simply because I said I wasn't happy with the game.

Nice going Microsoft, now trying to silence people.

February 29, 2012 10:54 PM

the first time i opened it and tried to play it it said that it could not open and that i had to restart the download or shut off my computer. why does it say that?

February 29, 2012 11:07 PM

i would love to try this game but im getting a problem with the downloader it says iv found a glitch on the xbox page and my download just stops at 1.2g and iv tried couple of times now but it keeps happening, anyone help?

February 29, 2012 11:19 PM

Long time flight simmer I think you guys shoulda made a Full sim like fsx

March 1, 2012 12:11 AM

@YouDally same problem to me, nothing happens after clicking Start Mission... is that a bug??

March 1, 2012 12:57 AM

I am enjoying this game.

"But, When I press startmission button in job board mission, nothing happpens but disappearing airplane. Any ideas?

I Hope official forum could be available soon."

i also has this problem, why?

March 1, 2012 12:58 AM

I also have this problem....

this might be a bug...

March 1, 2012 12:59 AM

What the serial? (microsoft games). This no free?

March 1, 2012 1:06 AM

WOW! :) This is the least i can say right now. Just got the game yesterday and after 10 minutes of flying i have purchased the Hawaii Adv Pack! It is indeed something else. I have played for years FS 2004 then FSX and i am so happy to see the Graphics engine finally up to date to current hardware and working silky smooth. Just two things i need to add:

1) How can one set the sensitivity for the Joystick? I have a Logitech 3D Force and it's very sensitive - i miss the settings that were available in FX9 / FSX

2) When do we get the big birds? :D

Microsoft, once again you prove that you are the best, and i can say that as a Windows user, as a .NET developer and as a MS Flight player!

Good Job!!

March 1, 2012 1:16 AM

I've been playing Flight Simulator since my Commodore 64 days.  I've also played it on the Amiga (FSII), PC in versions 4.0, 5.0, 95, 2000, and 2002.  I didn't really like the direction FS was heading so I lost interest in the later versions.

I've only just started playing Flight, but I must say I really love it!  This is the future of flight simulation.  Granted it'll be some time to get a lot more content, but I like the direction and fell of this program.  It seems a lot more like a game though, so I think more realism options should be included.  I will definitely be purchasing other areas (not Hawaii though) as they come out.  Looking forward to the San Francisco area and Chicago areas, since these are classics in my opinion.

The game engine is fantastic, and while I can't compare to a real aircraft, I'm sure the physics will be tweaked over time to make it as real as possible.

Please start adding more aircraft.  I look forward to trying out as many different planes and maybe even bring back the Learjet.  The bi-wing is nice, but how about some Fokker planes like the Dr.I or D.VI.  I've always been fascinated by those planes.

Keep up the good work!

March 1, 2012 3:25 AM

After playing this game I love it! for those of you who are upset because there are no jets and no ATC built into the game...get over it! You want to learn how to fly start by learning how to talk on the radios at a non towered airport. the vast majority of airports around the country dont have towers so there are ways to talk on the radio without the control tower. Another thing you cant just "jump in a 757 and cruise across the country". There are variables to flying jets that no offense but almost all of us that play this game dont understand. For example what is a coffin corner and how do you get out of it? I think the aerodynamics of the the game are actually better in this game. I read earlier someone complaining that when they stalled with the wings unlevel the plane didnt spin. In reallity this alone does not make the plane spin. During commercial training we would enter stalls in turns to both the left and the right, it is when the airplane is cross controlled that the airplane spins. If i could make one suggestion it would be to put navaids in there is the two missions where you shoot the ILS to mins and that was fun and the VOR's are automatically tuned to the nearest VOR. However it would be nice to be able to change the freq and select different VOR's for navigation. If you still are torn about the lack of ATC they already have the diffrent frequencies for each airport and the ability to tune the radios so who know maybe they will add the ability to run a tower at that airfield. This game is on its way to be the best flight sim ever. Give it time!

March 1, 2012 3:28 AM

Anyone says "it is a childs game" should read the CoreContent.pak file. Pls have a look this thread:

March 1, 2012 3:49 AM [Remove this Comment]

It would be great to know what are the developers preparing for us in future, right now MS flight is very limited although i know they will expand  P-51 without cockpit and Hawaii island is a dissapointment for me.

I love the graphics and performance, but i am missing animated waves and better shaders on the sea.

No DX11 support is a big let down from MS, creators of DX11.

For me MS flight is a big step back. IF they would just improve performance of MSFS X and add support for flight novices while maintaning digital content download with 3rd party support it would be a big win for both sides.

They could expect a huge sales, now a lot simfans moves to xplane 10.(Also 3rd party developers).

March 1, 2012 4:16 AM

This doesn't even come close to FSX! What a disappointment. Where is free flight, jets and where is the rest of the world!

March 1, 2012 4:22 AM

# good for beginning

# grafics are "hmm..ok" but my pc could do a LOT more

# my joystick was detected and works great

# very good tutorials, keep on with this! still room for improvement

# no freetrack / trackIR

# no multiplayer challenges (coop, missions, pvp ...) and if you plan i dont wanna spend instant money

# only 2 slow aircrafts with no challenge physics

# pricing is horrible. 1600 points? This is a joke even for a F2P

# Is it really F2P or just a demo with very limited content?

# Do wind or rain have any effect?

# No Damage model

For the start ok but there is much to tune or players will go either to X-Plane(sim) / Hawkx(arcade) or back to FSX.

March 1, 2012 4:23 AM

Ah and FFB would be great .. ;)

March 1, 2012 6:06 AM

Expectation great but in reality 2 out of 10 so far.

Maybe it is good at the know start simple and then build on that.

Hopefully it will get  to that point that everything will be tip top, but if you are going to charge so much for so little (all the add-ons now and in the future......are you planning to get very very rich or what???) I think that even charging margin of what you are charging now you will earn plenty, because there will be a lot of supporters if the price is right. Other ways the hole idea is going to flop and most of us will stay with MFS X or Planes X.

March 1, 2012 6:17 AM

Can anyone tell me how to reset camera view? I cannot change my current camera view - it's outside airplane and i cannot chane it by pressing F9 or other buttons...

March 1, 2012 7:15 AM

Can any1 tell me where and how to get the installationcode for that free Flight? Didn´t get any message about it and I cannot continue with installation

March 1, 2012 7:51 AM

this version in not to replace FSX

March 1, 2012 8:00 AM

For potedgum who mentioned that the Icon A5 doesn't have flaps.  This was correct at the time Microsoft were creating the Icon A5 model.

Initially the REAL Icon A5 did have flaps, then they decided they would remove them because they weren't needed, and it seems that, according to a press release from the 16th of Feb 2012, they are going to add them back again to improve takeoff performance from water (

All in all, just unfortunate timing it seems.

March 1, 2012 8:43 AM

If you are having trouble with the installation code then please see Delfinas comment earlier in the comment trail.

March 1, 2012 8:59 AM

When I first downloaded this, I was EXTREMELY disappointed. After I played it a while, i realised that this is not a simulator, and it's not suppose to be. It is a game. The title is Microsoft Flight. Not Microsoft Flight SIMULATOR. I would love a new simulator with graphics like this, though. I'm not as disappointed with it now as i was before. Also, can you guys (Microsoft) include some jets, either in an expansion pack, or something else. Thanks you!

March 1, 2012 9:30 AM

When launching MSFlight I get this error message:

Failed to read from file:PlayerData\5460B2FEA2F6B1F1\Career\Career4.bin

I have to hit a close button on this window several times before it can be removed from the opening screen. then i can hit the play button...

Need to know how to correct this?

March 1, 2012 9:55 AM

Now it worked. must have been an error while downloading and installing

March 1, 2012 10:20 AM

When I first learned about MS Flight I was happy. Then like most people I realized the only images being released were of Hawaii so I figured at least I'll have Hawaii to enjoy. Then it was announced it was free which really got me suspicious.

Now my suspicions were justified. There's a saying "You pay for what you get" We paid nothing and only got one Island and two aircraft. I wont buy the extra stuff. I would have gladly paid in store for all of the islands and some other aircraft.

This is early days so  there's bound to be improvements made (no point stating these, already been mentioned). I'm not a huge X-Plane fan so I'll be staying with FSX. The major thing that impresses me is the frame rates, so smooth. Good job on that!

March 1, 2012 10:39 AM

I like this but is it still in beta?

March 1, 2012 10:49 AM

Seems they are trying to attract a wider audience. Sales were probably slow on fsx compared to other choices. Give it a chance to to grow.

March 1, 2012 11:04 AM

I love it!The graphics are so good! Now just an F-16 fighting falcon is missing :D

March 1, 2012 11:22 AM

Wow! What a great game! The water is so blue! And the plane goes up when I pull back on the controller just like in the real world! The ground is so green! Thanks Microsoft for this great game! No more long nights playing Lite-Brite and Candyland for me anymore! You gained yourself a lifelong customer and since I’m only 9 years old that’s gonna be a long time! Super High Five to all of you!

March 1, 2012 11:32 AM

I’m sorry to say this but Microsoft Flight is really disappointing… Graphics and performance is great. But the realism isn’t there. Maybe good enough for kids 3-12 years, this is just a stupid game. It’s not worth 5 cents for me as an IRL- and simulator pilot.  Make a fusion of Microsoft FSX + Flight + VATSIM then you are home…

March 1, 2012 11:51 AM

TrackIR does not work! Why such a great game does not support TrackIR? It's awful, it's a big mistake...

Developers, please listen to the users!

March 1, 2012 11:59 AM

Two Things to say here.

1 - Microsoft is pulling negative comments from this board and policing, now if you post something vulgar or offensive I understand. But the content that has been removed from this board in some instances was completly legit and was removed without reason (other than we all hate MS Flight.)

2- For those who are saying good things (other than the obvious GRaphics and visualy stunning graphics) Most of these comments seem almost contrary to how the game actually is. Im being honest when I say its really a money grab and is a poor attempt to satisfy both the casual and the sim enthu. Even casuals are pissed at the game and its lack of depth. So leads me to believe this board doesnt represent the 80% of Flight players who are discusted with this Title and its creators. Not to mention the non democratic manner in which this board is being policed.

Please take your comments to Gamespy, IGN, or any other major Review Website and make your voice heard! AS comments here may well be removed due to their truth factor. Thanks Micro!

Agreed with u halroach187. I posted a comment just saying "I don't like it. Hope in the future they bring ATC and ......" and it got deleted.

MS is pulling negative comments so people only see the "good" ones and let people think is a great simulator when is not....

Couldn't care less....

March 1, 2012 12:39 PM

Hi, I have a problem with the camera view, it was working fine, but suddenly when I started one of the challenges, it got stuck to fly by view, and it doesn't change, I tried everything, F9, F10, F11, F12, F7, Shift F7, and the joystick buttons, but nothing is happening, now I can't play the game :(

Can anyone help please?!!!!!

March 1, 2012 1:04 PM

All those moaning about lack of Track IR support - I bet ya that Flight will have Kinect support in future, basically forcing people to buy it if they want head movement etc.

March 1, 2012 1:41 PM

Same here. I posted a not so enthusiastic comment and my post is deleted.

March 1, 2012 1:51 PM

We have been and will continue to delete comments that contain profanity; language or references inconsistent with our E-rating (which is fairly restrictive language-wise); threatening, abusive, or insulting language directed at other posters or the development team; links whose safety I can't quickly verify; blatant trolling, etc.

If you'd like to express what you did and didn't like about the game, what you'd like to see in the future, etc. feel free to do so. But if you want your post to remain, please keep it clean and ensure you are expressing your opinion in a family- and workplace-appropriate manner. Thanks! :-)

Microsoft flight is so much of a dissapointment. The clouds look like large squares the gameplay is awful and the whole realism aspect has gone. Flight is such a fail and not a single FS fan will move to it from FSX. You have not only let us donw but yourselfs also. X-plane is obviously the way forward now as we dont really have a choice. All i want is to fly a 787 or a 747 round the world and speak to ATC making the experience as real as possible. How can the graphics become worse on a game that is made 5 years after FSX??

You should be embarrassed at this poor excuse at an arcade game

xl Rozza lx
March 1, 2012 2:10 PM

Doesn't even come close the the quality of FSX which was released 5 years ago. Such a shame.

An embarrassment.

March 1, 2012 2:15 PM

What is this rubbish, this is not a simulator it is a childs game. there is no ATC no radio, no large planes and you are limited to Hawaii, all we can do is perform small little challenges and get bored flying round this island in underpowered planes, and if you want to get any more you have to pay. i think microsoft should be paying us to use this game. The graphics are horrid the requirments used to be really high but now the have been greatly reduced, this was probab;y done so that centuaries old Pentium systems can run the game which is a MASSIVE dissapointment it doesnt look or feel real at all.

March 1, 2012 2:48 PM

After reading all the negatives I still went ahead and kept an open mind, giving it a try.  I agree, it's not what I had hoped for.  But, I still found it amusing and fun.  So much so that I went ahead and purchased the rest of Hawaii.  I'm hoping that the challenges get a bit more involved, which I hear they do.  The one thing I miss the most is the ability to use multiple monitors, something that makes FSX really a great experience.  With multiple monitors, you could have a more detailed flight panel, instead of the sort of lame heads up display.

Has anyone figured out how to operate the landing gear with something other than "Button 8"?  I can get it to work by flipping the cockpit switch with my mouse, but it sure would be nice to be able to get my CH flight yoke gear switch to work.  The flaps on it work on the aircraft that has them if you hold the switch down.

March 1, 2012 3:22 PM

Unfortunately I was too excited for this update. I was really hoping for another simulator whereas this just feels like it gets rid of all realism and the graphics even seem a little cartoonish for my taste. Just my two cents. Hopefully MS will expand this program to allow for more detailed scenery and aircraft as well as airliner aircraft.

March 1, 2012 3:37 PM

"moaning about lack of Track IR support"

lol, moaning...  normal requirement for the game

March 1, 2012 4:04 PM

Dear flight development team,  I said earlier that you should add reality to your game but Im going to retract that statement because you already failed.  what i think you should do is, the same thing you did with FSX give the rights it to Lockheed martin and let an industry leader turn your kids game into a flight simulator.

March 1, 2012 4:12 PM

Please ....update, atc, simulator realistic, compatibility with fsx .

You're the best for the futur !

March 1, 2012 4:57 PM

This is my first flight simulator and i am having a very fun and cool time with this, i am playing with the 360 control pad and it's a dream.

Bought the DLC pack within 4 hours of playing as i knew this game was for me.

Thanks for introducing me to a new experience.

March 1, 2012 5:15 PM

MS Flight is a Games for Windows Live product, so I won't even try it. Experience tells me it's not worth the trouble...

March 1, 2012 6:02 PM

Original Icon A5 design didn't have flaps. They recently re-introduced flaps into the design. Update plx. =|

March 1, 2012 6:29 PM

Congratulations, the game is great. Very easy to play, with all important info displayed on the HUD and the tutorials are simple and fast to complete.

March 1, 2012 6:34 PM

Can anyone please help with my problem, I still can't change the Fly By view :((((

Infamous SkyBum
March 1, 2012 6:39 PM

Love the "Game". I'll keep FSX for when I want an honest and open simulation, but Flight lets me just kick back and go nuts. I can't wait to see more addons. Will there be the inclusion of combat in the future? Will there be forums? You guys did great (pat on the back). Now, get to work, you've got some serious money to make!

March 1, 2012 7:39 PM

Great job guys, but I’m a little concerned about where this “ Flight Sim ” if we can call it that is going. This is by no means what I expected from Microsoft. As a real flight simulator fan and aviation enthusiast don’t think I can support this for too long. FSX has not been erased.  In fact this is might make the x-plane franchise a possibility for me,  if flight is the end of Microsoft Flight Simulator. None the less great job on the graphics.

March 1, 2012 8:20 PM

Awesome game, but waaaaaaaay to small area. It's probably meant to fly around and look at the scenery in all peace, but it gets boring suprisingly fast. I have run out of ideas what to do, the missions was done almost immediately, and the jobs are all alike and boring. Downloaded it y-day bought all the addons available have now played it for approx. 6hours and its starting to get really boring. Need more addons, and need them now!! The graphics are spectacular and the feel of flying is good though, scenery is beautiful and Im loving the Icon A5 aswell as the Vans RV-6A. The p51 sucks for not having cockpit view. All together it is a satisfying game (for a few hours). Hoping to see addons soon though!

March 1, 2012 8:26 PM

yer good job so far, hope more will be added, things like atc etc

March 1, 2012 8:49 PM

I really like the new flight  sim very smooth graphics  i.e. mountains trees, my only grip is theres still some old signs of FSX, built up areas still look a bit cut off at the edges and the one thing i dont like in most sims is that the roads they still seem to di-sect the senery and built up areas making it a bit unreal but apart from that planes and senery mesh fantastic

March 1, 2012 9:03 PM

What happened? This isnt a flight sim. This is a childs game!

March 1, 2012 9:30 PM

Thanks for the info Grambostorm, I didn't know that was the case.  So it seems like Microsoft is trying to make this game somewhat real.  Although I don't really think that it necessarily has to, just so long as its fun.  If they are going the route of realism, then why not just build upon fsx, it already is so good but the only problem is its cpu reliant without being able to utilize the power of dual or quad cpu's and that bottlenecks the graphics.  Anyways, I hope they listen to what most of these people have to say here and take it as constructive criticism and not just unrealistic demands cause im looking forward to it.

March 1, 2012 9:32 PM

oh and by "fun" i mean flying threw a cloud and getting tossed around in the dark by lightning or realistic crashes or wind whishing through the cockpit etc... not just smooth graphics although thats important to.  I do think this has potential for that

March 1, 2012 9:38 PM

I still prefer Fsx but this is a fun game and im looking foreward to updates and more aircraft and capabilities ie. jets, traffic and some "normal" GA aircraft

March 1, 2012 10:24 PM

Appearently they delete your comment if you state youre not going to spend any money on this game.

March 1, 2012 11:40 PM

After a few hours of playing with flight i miss 3 things.

1) A flightplanner (VOR, ADF, NDB)

2) ATC

3) AI

If these options are implemented i think i would give this game a "simulation" rating.

March 1, 2012 11:44 PM

I like it. Sure, there needs to be some updating and I am not deleting FSX but I really enjoy the RV and the Icon....and I think the graphics and framerate are great. I have it turned all the way up and it's amazing in my eyes.

March 2, 2012 12:42 AM

fun indeed, yet im missing certain things, that would make the flight feeling a whole lot better.

it seems i cant play flight on 3 screens, i can stretch it in windowed mode, but the entire cockpit and hud get stretched too =/ and the resolution is always fixed to 5760x1080, so i cant change it at all.

sad, as playing on three screens would make the flight experience a whole lot better

then, is it just me or cant the autopilot be operated?

some more IFR features would be great (ie in flight map)

and how soon can the rest of the world be expected? =)

keep up the good work and fsx wont be a competitor

March 2, 2012 2:11 AM

I will admit that I was ready to flame this new offering in the Flight Simulator franchise, but after playing for a few hours there is at least some promise here. As it stands right now though, this is an arcade game at best; mastered in 30 minutes and somewhat tedious after 2 hours.

What I did like was the emphasis the Flight team put on feedback, so I hope you guys are reading these comments and taking them seriously. I realize it's a new team working on the game but I hope you don't forget the 25 year heritage you're inheriting. The reason people are still playing FSX and FS2000 after all these years is because of the depth of experience they offer. Name me one arcade style aviation game that people are still playing 6 months after release. I'm sure you can't because it doesn't exist. The Flight Simulator franchise has such a strong base because of its realism, attention to detail, and adaptive capabilities.

The engine you've built with Flight is great. The graphics are sound and the potential is there. Leave the arcade style missions for people who are new to the genre. It can be a useful stepping stone into a more expansive game. Map the rest of the world, add large aircraft, create the IFR approaches and NAVAID network that will enhance the realism and attract our strong fanbase. Don't charge 1200MS Points for every new aircraft and scenery add-on. You'll quickly end up with zero players. Make this into the simulator it should and can be. We've been waiting a long time for this game, please don't let us down!

March 2, 2012 3:22 AM

Fun for about 30 minutes, heading back to fsx now.  Shouldn't have released with only 4 small planes in the game with only Hawaii.  I don't see how this took 3 years to make.  Good idea but need more content, a lot more.

March 2, 2012 4:29 AM [Remove this Comment]

I got bored just after 10 minutes of playing. I also bought the expansion pack wishing this could widen the experience. It has just widened the boredom.

No Real Time Weather

No AI Traffic

No IFR/flight planning capabilities

No jets/heavy metals

No world scenery coverage

For istance the airport's pages are lacking of any technical information about the runways (i.e. direction for ILS approach).

This is not simulation. It's just a boring game. 12 years old kids would take 5 minutes to get back to HAWX and stuff like that. I can't see any fun in searching for gold coins around an island.

I could go on for hours. You got my money and now I expect to be fully satisfied.

March 2, 2012 4:54 AM

Played it and well it was all good; amazing potential to grow into an amazing simulator/game.

I'm going to wait till the game matures a little before commenting further.

First of all, I like the new Flight. Being a commercial pilot I´m looking for something stick&rudder, seat of your pants flying in my off-time. Flight fulfills that and it looks good doing it. I even bought the extra stuff, to show my support, though I´d rather would buy it as a full-prize game, instead of this micro(in that case it´s more macro)payment BS.

But there are some very disappointing things:

-No TrackIR

-No analogue axes for the brakes

-No flaps

-Flightmodel appears to be pretty docile, all help features switched off, of course

-No ATC, not even the ATIS is working. How can you check your altimeter without QNH?

-No Navaids

-A lot of stuttering, lagging and jumping around in multiplayer

-A payware! addon P-51 without a cockpit? Are you kidding me?

As a conclusion I wouldn´t  recommend Flight in it´s current state.

Maybe I will some day, if the mentoined problems are taken care of.

I don´t need airliners and I don´t need the hardcore simmers. A lot of these guys take the simming just too serious. Being a real life pilot I can only say, sometimes the try to make it way more "real" than real. Don´t want to offend anyone, that´s just not the way I want to spend my off time.

I hope, that some day, the new Flight might evolve to the best VFR flight sim.

Fingers crossed.

Keepém flying!

Graphics = awesome, Frames = awesome but that's about it.

I'm today spending most of my time with FSX + Acceleration, Ultimate traffic 2, Rex V2 HD, Ultimate terrain X, Active sky x, IFLY 737NG & FS2CREW, besides quite poor Frame rates and some graphical details I'm extremely happy.

I as others have been long awaiting this, only to get very disappointed.

This is an arcade game that won't last!

Hope you release the complete world and an AC as detailed as the IFLY until I turn 80 year old.

I think the most wanted right now and the very list you can do for your hardcore fans is: Release a SP3 for FSX, " including full DX10 support, this alone will increase Frames", Full Multi Core and Gpu support, possibility to fully zoom in\out while running 3 or more screens setup.

I'm ready to pay for the SP3 for FSX and know a lot of people that will happily do the same.

Or add to his game:

The world with all airports and their information

Ai traffic

Real world weather

Advanced AC such as ILFY or PMDG ( OR LET OTEHRS DO IT)

Voice interaction , commands with ATC and copilot

ILS, VOR, SID, STARS, Fully working FMC

Until then I'll stick to and play FSX the way it is, probably within 10 years we have the hardware to play it at its full potential.

I will stick to simming in FSX, for realistic flying. As far as Flight goes my 8 year old daughter can enjoy this one. Please bring back Track IR support, and advanced rudder and yoke controls like sensitivity, dead zone etc. Oh, and the water looks like plastic fix that.

This game needs a few stunt planes, Pitts Special S-2B, Extra 300, with a smoke system, I would definitely buy those.

March 2, 2012 8:36 AM

There should be more simulated aircraft systems, because the Icon A5 doesn't even have a working transponder. And is there any ATC?

March 2, 2012 10:33 AM

I like the idea of a smoke system.  Would be useful on my Icon A5 as it seems to be crashed into the side of a hill most of the time......

March 2, 2012 11:08 AM

i downloaded this game thinking it would be like the ones in the past its not after i downloaded the game all i can do is missions i cant do free flight or noating i cant even explore one island am i doing something wrong cuz all i can do is missions someone help me

March 2, 2012 11:39 AM

Just do the first two, quick missions which introduce you to flying and the Icon A5: First Flight and then Wedding Party

Then you can do Free Flight.

March 2, 2012 11:49 AM

Customers bought Microsoft Flight Simulator 10 because it literally taught you how to fly an airplane, including commercial airliners.  FSX wasn't a game; it was an educational tool.  Of course, all that realism made FSX hard.  Casual gamers didn't have the skills or the patience to really learn how to fly.  FSX's customers were pilots or people willing to invest a lot of time in learning to fly.  The new Microsoft Flight, as it now exists, is a game.  While Microsoft is going to gain some casual game playing customers, it is going to lose the real world pilots that used FSX to hone real world skills.  I'm not a real-world pilot, but even I got to the point in FSX where I could takeoff in a Boeing 737, use GPS to navigate to an airport across the continent, and land... all while using a very authentic reproduction of the 737's cockpit.  Maybe Microsoft Flight will one day have an option for a true flight simulator experience that will make pilots happy. I've noticed that some of the tutorials, like the one on landing, is far more technically in depth than the same tutorial in FSX, so I have some hope.  The graphics in Microsoft Flight are certainly impressive.

March 2, 2012 1:29 PM

nice graphics, but no realism - its an arcade game at the moment.

MS please give us an Button for changing from arcade mode to realism mode. Then all gamers can switch to what they want.

March 2, 2012 1:44 PM

As many others here I have first complained about all the things that were in FSX but are missing in Flight. Meanwhile I have played some of the missions and I must say:

1. Well done with the missions! There are some convincing stories to justify flying from A to B, and nice conversations to shorten the time :)

2. For all of you complaining that there is no IFR in Flight: It's there! The advanced landing challenges for the RV-6 include two IFR approaches which are quite tough to master!

3. The wheather effects are very convincing, finally there is something like true smooth fog, not to compare with the static one color of gray FSX fog!

4. Yes, the Icon A5 feels a bit unrealistic to fly, but for me the flight dynamics of the RV-6 and the Stearman feel quite good.

5. To be honest, I don't need the whole world to fly, I'm very pleased with the idea of smaller, more detailed areas where it's finally fun to fly slightly above treetop level and explore the landscape.

But, of course I want more scenery than Hawaii! So let's see what comes next...

March 2, 2012 2:03 PM

I am completely disappointed. I want a simulator, this is just an arcade game :/

March 2, 2012 2:06 PM

I didn't have high expectations, but when I started playing this morning I was positively surprised by Microsoft Flight! The graphics engine is really great, though I get the occasional and annoying stutter/frameskip. My system however meets the recommended requirements. I also like the slick menu interface/map! Very innovative and intuitive! I consider myself a 'hardcore' simmer (playing DCS, LOMAC and FSX for several years), but I'm having great fun flying the different airplanes in Flight. I'm not a real pilot, but the sense of speed and freedom I get are fantastic. I also admire the steps the development team took to make this game really accessible to starters. The only thing I really miss is TrackIR support... I hope you guys (the development team) will add that soon. Good luck and cheers to you! Great work!

March 2, 2012 3:25 PM

do i like ?? Absolutely NOT !!! I will stay with FSX for now and see what happens. No ATC no airlines and whats with one island !!! it will cost a fortune to fly around the world ( if you are ever able ) what an earth have microsoft spent all these years developing. We don't want an arcade game we want a flight sim that will either equal or surpass FSX. You have done neither !!!

March 2, 2012 5:27 PM

I know corporations are only interested in my money but at least make me feel like its a bonus to get some add on's instead of making me feel like you're reaching into my pockets!!

I totally agree on that Steelrain, but sadly all games are like that these days. You can't get out of it pating 60 bucks for a full game, you have to repay lots of cash to get all addons it's ridiculous and I really hate this new kind of games. Like consweet said I'll stick to FSX for now, 2 planes that aren't really cool to fly doesn't interrest me much. I'm sad but I still believe that Flight could get better than what it is at this time.

March 2, 2012 6:12 PM

I guess hardcore simmers are no longer Microsoft's audience with this software. Some executive with no clue made that decision and frankly should be fired.

It's good for what it is, a "game" and no longer a real "simulation" of flight. It's sad.

Add ATC, AI traffic, flight planning, real working autopilots, more planes, and a lot more area to fly in and then you'll get some fans back.

That being said, I am enjoying Flight as it stands now. I enjoy the missions and the progression. It's just not what I, and many others, expected.

March 2, 2012 6:31 PM

Flight is amazing so far. It would be nice to get ai and atc.  For everyone complaining about no ai and atc, half of the aircraft are in the FAA light sport category. Do some research on light sport! Light sport are not equipped with radios. Atc would be useless.

flight its brand new and the core is free. Look at what happened with fsx. Okay game, got upgraded to an amazing flight Sim. Flight has not yet started its upgrade process. Microsoft is probably still taking in suggestions before they release a service pack. Do you think people will be happy with an incomplete upgrade?

March 2, 2012 6:31 PM

Good start. Now expand it further, add more sim elements and most importantly Track iR-support! But in the name of all that is holy; keep the performance your 1st priority. It sure  is nice to have every possible thing modelled but if it runs on 8 to 20 FPS, it is a big immersion killer and countless hours spend on tweaking make your life miserable. Current great all-around performance is the main reason I have faith in Flight. Oh, and the overall feeling is so relaxing :) (BTW, I also fly DCS-series so I´m not an all casual gamer...)

Flight is not perfect, it doesn´t fulfill everyones expectations, but it sure delivers more on release than e.g. IL-2 Cliffs of Dover. Keep it up! And I don´t mind paying for good content. After all, this is business, not charity.

March 2, 2012 6:34 PM

My logitech attack 3 joystick's built in throttle doesn't work. Other than that, great job Micr.osoft. Hardcore simmers need to wake up and give flight a try

March 2, 2012 6:44 PM

I especially appreciate the little touches that add to the immersive feel:  the crazing in the plexiglas as the dawn sunlight strikes it; the way the sun falls across the instrument panel; the difficulty in locating that dirt strip that the map tells you is there (no ugly rectangles here); the guided checklists, as though someone were familiarizing you with an unfamiliar aircraft.

All in all a great beginning!  And it's rather ironic that the word "Simulator" has been dropped when we're finally getting a true simulation.

My hope is that with all the doodads available to a newcomer this franchise will be successful.  And don't get me wrong but the challenges and aerocaches appeal to me also.

March 2, 2012 6:52 PM

I would much prefer to pay £100 on a great new Flight Simulator than have this embaressment of a game wasting space on my hard drive.

I think that microsoft will have just lost several hundred fans of the MFS franchise over to Xplane. This game is a discrase. 3 years was odviously a lie. Simple not possable.

Can we at least have an update for FSX? You would win back the support of many with a simple but effective update for fsx.

xl Rozza lx
March 2, 2012 6:54 PM

@DrearLemon452 you cannot searoiusly think that this is a true simulation. MS2000 was more of a simulation than this...

March 2, 2012 7:33 PM

It looks promising, I like the aerocache and the other structured flights and the scoring system. having to regain achievements on FSX every time I reinstalled it was getting old.

Try flying a shipment of cats, it's fun.

I like the checklists very much, it's educational and helps to root some important habits.

I'd be happy if I heard someone say that an implementation of dual screens support is on the way and that they plan to release "pop-up" windows for instruments so we'll have an option to move the GPS, radios and some other instrument panels to a second monitor.

I'd be happy to hear that ATC for free flights and multi player is in the pipes.

currently, it seems there's no support for the Track IR which I find to be the most important hardware for flights after yoke and pedals, and there's no support for the different Saitek flight panels, I hope that's coming soon.

My hopes for this title is that the hard core features of previous releases would be available for whoever wants it while keeping it simple for all the rest.

I think that the new business model is interesting and that some of the unhappy comments here are by people who realize that it will not allow them to just rip this software from the web.

March 2, 2012 7:36 PM

CAn you please make the cockpit for the P-51, i am very dissappointed in its performance and i feel i have waisted my money...

March 2, 2012 7:56 PM

I'm not buying the Hawaii Adventure Pack until they announce how future expansions will be handled and priced. I see potential on this game but it must expand further if it wishes to succeed at all. Releasing a USA Pack or anything of that sort (even if you have to split between east and west coast) is a must.

Besides, if this is a serious sim, jets are required. I noticed the tips mention helicopters in-game so I'll just assume they're coming soon aswell, but jets should be a priority once the world is expanded, otherwise this simulator won't go any farther than Pilotwings. As a Flight Simulator veteran, I understand it's far easier for beginners to first pilot small planes - but not adding jets is a huge disappointment to those who are experienced with these planes. Again, assuming they'll be added in the future, this is not much of a problem.

Something else that concerns me is ATC. Air Traffic Control is usually aimed towards more hardcore players since there isn't much use for the casual audience and ignoring this system altogether only shows that you are far more worried about your casual audience than your hardcore fans. When the game was announced, you stated that both group of players would be able to enjoy flying. But turns out that hardcore players are unable to experience what flying really is - because, let's face it, it's definitely not roaming around an island with no traffic control.

Again, what concerns me the most is how big the world will be and how these expansions will be handled. Planes are obviously overpriced since they've got no ILS support, buttons are missing, small yet important details such as flaps (Icon A5) are also missing and one of them doesn't even include a virtual cockpit. How realistic is flying a plane using the Outside Camera?

The game does add some interesting new gameplay improvements but there's a lot of important content lacking - and most, if not all of them are related to professional flying, meaning the developers didn't dedicate as much time as they should have to this public. However, I do hope these features are implemented in the future and that, one day, Flight will be good enough to replace Flight Simulator. Until then, however, there's a lot left to be done. Flight Simulator should remain your sim choice (unless you'd rather fly in X-Plane). Flight is nowhere near professional.

March 2, 2012 8:15 PM

I totally agree with you Denolth! It's a bit disappointing compared to the previous game FSX. I mean, the choice of the 2 free planes isn't good, I mean ok the Icon A5 is cool but they should have given us a Cessna or something at least. All you can do now is fly a bit around find the coins and that's it because for the other things like cargo or passenger you can buy the "bigger" plane .. Its bit disappointing, I was looking forward to a small yet too.

I saw when you wanna 'free flight' you can see what the ATC frequencies are but didn't tried it yet. So you say there is no ATC at all?! Darn that's a big fail. I hope it still comes, especially as in FSX where you could manually operate the ATC, that was fun :)

And yeah the price for a plane is pretty high :/ I mean, you can have a high price for sure but then give us the advantage to use all buttons and tools inside cockpit.

I'm not going to put Flight away but I will most likely keep playing on FSX for now until further updates passes by.

March 3, 2012 3:18 AM

if you have problem witch locked camera read this

March 3, 2012 9:15 AM

I just went ahead and ordered the X-Plane 10. MS Flight may be a fun game for kids but thats about it for this game. It is a real disappointment for aviation enthusiasts for all the reasons given by users above and a whole lot more. Microsoft Studios, in their effort to gain a larger audience, have lost out on a huge and dedicated community of sim-enthusiasts.

The only thing MS Flight has going for it is a slight improvement in the graphics section. And i emphasize "slight". Why did it take MS Studios so many years to come out with this below average product.

Anyways, thanks to MS Flight, X-Plane 10 can expect to see a huge jump in its sales.

March 3, 2012 11:09 AM

I have been with MS flight simulator since 2002 and have upgraded each time to the next version. I downloaded Flight recently and thoroughly enjoyed it. Even though i would like to see Flight have ATC, AI, IFR and all that FSX had, I'm sure it will develop in time. I think Flight will eventually develop into a full game with what we all want, the "whole" world, not just Hawaii. Yes prices are extremely high for just the Hawaiian Islands, but give it time and they will come down. Give MS a chance to prove what they have in store for all us Microsoft Flight Simulator fans and it will develop maybe not into the Flight Simulator we know, but something close to it.

March 3, 2012 11:11 AM

I don't understand, is this supposed to be a demo?  Why do I have to play these childish chase-the-baloon games?  The "mission" won't respond properly with my x52 controller and when I tried to download the flight manual it seemed to quit without really trying, can't I save a copy?  I feel like you want to lead me around by my hand like a child.  Why can't you just give me a Skyhawk and a runway and let me fly?

March 3, 2012 1:22 PM

This is more a childs game than a flight sim. Someone on the team actually thought of magic carpets! What a joke. MS should go out and hire some real world pilots or at least the team from FSX and design a quality flight sim. I let my plane out over the ocean and it got to a point where it wouldn't go any further, not allowing me to leave the island so I guess this is the "Lost" version of flight simming.

March 3, 2012 6:49 PM

love it but how do i get clandestine cargo mission?

March 4, 2012 4:54 PM

Excellent game, well done MS. The job boards keep the sim alive.

March 5, 2012 2:35 AM

First of all, I'd like to say:

Even though this was really not geared towards hard-core simmers, as myself I have to say for what it is, it's really fun to play. i DID buy all the the extra add-on's. The game itself  is non apologetic and delivers what it's trying to be. The problem is, that MS as a company delivered a great product, but failed to market it for what  it is, and THAT's why you have so many  hard core simmers here, and in 3rd party forums expressing their disappointment.

Yes, as I said it's a really fun game. I'm sure that a person who's daily driver is a muscle car, would still find it fun to zip around town in a Smart car for a day or two, but that is it. At least he knows what he's in for from the start. The point is, we were sold on flight, and we were promised something that a hard core simmer would take seriously. It did not happen, at least not yet anyway. Unless MS has plans for upgrades via micro transactions as is the case with the Hawaiian expansion pack, which I think is a poor business model for a hard-core simmer.

Anyway, that being said, I have a technical issue which I and some other folks have posted about on the official xbox forums. As another person who posted here, I too am plagued with the dreaded:

"Failed to read from file:PlayerData\xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx\Career\Career1.bin" And

"Failed to read from file:PlayerData\xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx\Career\Career7.bin"

So far, no one has found a solution. It's rather frustrating to to start up the game and have all the player's progress not loading which in turn forces the player to have to start over. I've tried all the suggestions that some people have posted and none have worked. Has MS found an official solution? A expansive google search has yielded next to nothing. Only a handful of people have posted about this on the xbox forums. If, so could you kindly redirect me to the site, or offer your assistance? Thank you.

March 5, 2012 4:53 AM

Hi All,

On my bible  - Flight Simulator X For Pilots it says "For serios pilots, It's not a game". Well, you could not say it about MS Flight as IT IS A GAME. It is fun, it has nice graphics and so on, but after one hour of playing a real simmer gets bored. You know why ? Becasue every simmer dreams to be a real pilot, lost in the clouds looking at their PFD, approch maps, reading the radios and doing ATC communication, making procedural turn and the final approach. The game is perfect for VFR, but I am not a teenager anymore to play VFR only. It's the navigation, complex maths calculations to be on the right track and glideslope that still makes me excited. I love the MS flight graphics, I hope sooner or later we'll see something for simmers and not only just players. I am not religious about simming, but truely you get bored with only VFR.

BTW Icon 5 is a perfect sport plane. I'd love to have one ;)

March 5, 2012 4:57 AM

"point where it wouldn't go any further, not allowing me to leave the island so I guess this is the "Lost" version of flight simming."

LOL !!!!!!!!!!!! the perfect comment I read about MS FLIGHT. I wait for season two or three so I could go "Back to the Future" ;)

March 5, 2012 9:19 PM

Grea game. I just got into flight simming but this game is very impressing. I love flying over the lush hawaiin enviroment. One thing I think they should add is the west coast of the u.s. Just imagine flying around the space needle in Seattle. It's proximity from Hawaii is fairly close so they could easily fit it on the current map. I also can't wait for the helis. It will add to the flying variety. Overall, great game and can't wait for future expansions.

March 5, 2012 10:10 PM

I like Flight, a lot. I still fly FSX quite a bit. Since I had some MS points still in my account, I have purchased the Hawaii pack (we should have got all of Hawaii,  to start IMO, but oh well), the Maule, and p51. I'm disappointed that the P51 does'nt have a cockpit; I should have checked that. For future planes I will.

I just wish that MS would release this as a full sim, FSSX1 or whatever; this would be great, have the FSX features, but have this is a base, i.e. you can fly in simple mode if you want. This sim would be great with scenery for the whole world, all the airports, more planes etc, but it seems that, eventually that is coming for this version; you will just have to pony up MS points to add planes, and parts of the world (Hmmm Alaska, huh? what's next, California, maybe? If they're going to do that I'd rather they release it as a shrink wrapped product. It will cost a lot more to add it piece by piece, but looks like that's what MS is going for. And I'd rather have a disk because that happens if I have to reinstall? Download all those GBs of files again? Ugh.

AND please at least give us say NAVII aircraft...VOR DME, etc. Radios are repsresented here, but don't work. And no autopilot? Now, if you get the power, mixture, prop, and trim JUST right, it's close, but come on, if I'm going to fly 200 miles in the Maule, how about an autopilot? Is that so much to ask? I'd rather do the whole flight without skipping.

Come on MS hook us up.

March 6, 2012 4:17 AM

So i'm very confused, I just installed Flight and can't seem to get it running after I installed it.  I get taken to a Games for Windows Marketplace - what gives?

March 6, 2012 1:41 PM

@VIPER883: Try deleting your %localappdata% directory.

March 7, 2012 3:26 PM

Overpriced brilliance!

I'm very impressed with the graphics, overall look and performance on my machine of this game.

The flight model and feel in the environment is leagues ahead of FSX, (more detail in the same direction to make it absolutely real as I understand it).

I'll need to see a lot of realistic features implemented before I can start putting my money into it though, I can't believe if you buy the Maule there is still no autopilot.

I hope IFR flying, A.I, ATC, real world time and weather sync will all come along soon.

To have an FSX(+) type game that can appeal to users of all ages levels of knowledge, skill and expectations, with this performance balance and great DX11 graphics will be amazing. It's clever the way it's been steamlined at its core, yet is more realistic at that level than its predecessor for it, less is more sometimes.......

I could see myself spending money on it, but pleeeeaaaase not too expensive.

I can understand Microsoft wanting to keep development in house, both financially and to control consistency for the end user, but an SDK for non commercial purposes would be a great inclusion.

March 8, 2012 2:17 PM

Well as an avid fan of the Flight Simulator series since FS95 I have to say this is a breath of fresh air. This is what FS needed to survive IMHO. I just hope to god MS are going include ATC, AI traffic and allow 3rd party developers to design for Flight. I don't mind paying for extra stuff and I quite like the idea actually. I means we get a well looked after product, updated and patched unlike the FS series where we had to literally beg for even 1 update. I'm on a quadcore with 9800GT and it runs like silk as long as I don't have the scenery detail too high.

To all fellow hardcore simmers - be patient and give it a chance.

March 9, 2012 6:05 AM

Looks great. Agree with idea to get new people interested in moving from arcade to sim. I so hope it moves to more sim too (I like both dpending on mood and time), and PLEASE support TrackIR.

Camera selection seems a bit buggy, suffered the 'locked=true' bug for some reason...anyways, looking forward to updates and expansion in both directions, both Sim and casual.

March 9, 2012 6:21 AM

Aerobatic box - fantastic visualisation for pilots who have never done aerobatics before. Great learning too.

March 11, 2012 1:04 PM

Dear Flight team

Having used microsoft flight simulator since the very beginning I have the following comments.

1) Love the new graphics and the lack of necessity to tweak the settings to get decent frame rates.

2) Love the way the aircrafts handle, but this could be a by product of the sleeker graphics.

3)I hate the very sickly happy almost Disney characters you have now added and the lack of default aircraft. Also when will the rest of the NAVAIDS etc become available?

4) After FSX why is the world so empty? No cars birds or AI. As mentioned in a previous post looks like a post apocalytic world where only Hawaii exists.

For those of us in europe how long are we going to have to wait for this map to appear not to mention the rest of the world?

Probably long after North America has resurrected in flight from the Holocaust LOL!!!

Dont get me wrong, access for newbies is critical to keep this genre going and yes i do enjoy playing a quick mission. Please note i said playing not flying!!!!

IMHO if Microsoft unleash the rest of world maps etc and call it deluxe or pro version then at least it may go someway to help keep ardened simmers interested in flight.

March 29, 2012 4:31 PM

Microsoft flight great game enjoying a lot ! thanks =)

April 1, 2012 9:16 AM

thank you for this amazing work !

April 7, 2012 1:49 PM

This is a very good game!

April 14, 2012 2:28 PM

Can anyone help me out? My mouse's control is bugged and i can't seem to find the problem. When a mission starts my mouse isn't set to the middle, instead it is leaning to the left side very hard when i center my mouse. Any idea on how to correct that? Not calibrating center view but the mouse control. Thanks

And yes, loving it ALOT. Not yet getting the other aircrafts yet untill this problem is solved but i adore the graphics and smooth handle of the game!

April 20, 2012 7:28 PM

Okay I have had enough of the islands !

I have flown over 9000 nm and I have seen all of it.

quit driving us nuts give us ALASKA

I love Flight but you want our money move faster

May 14, 2012 3:45 PM

June 12, 2012 12:30 AM

Airlines and ATC!!!!..... Fun, but you are losing us rapidly without these

June 14, 2012 12:09 AM

Hey, we can still comment here!

June 24, 2012 11:52 PM

I would be okay staying on the islands if there was traffic to see.  Its a barren lifeless and lonely world.

Populate the sky's, waters and airports with boats and planes.  I'll let the road traffic slide for now just to see something happen at the airports and the sea.  In game ATC even if its AI controlled only for now would be nice as well.

We need some more planes.  War planes are nice and all (except the no cockpit options) but a few modern Cessna's and a Jet would really nicely complete what we have already.  I would a few helicopter options but wont get my hopes up.

I look forward to Alaska but a "basic" cub... will this also have no cockpit?

I want Fight to succeed but it needs to be flushed out a bit more.  I bought the full island package but wont be buying any planes unless they are complete and modern.

Please keep at it.

Give the SAR bird an option to fuel a player plane in multiplayer. and more sar missions over all would be nice. Those are my favorite.

Microsoft, Flight has been great and still is, but what ever happened to the main goal of simple and easy? Think you should add moving objects like maybe other aircraft just flying on a route and taxiing. And taking off, all that. Otherwise flight can get lonely
